In reaction to the incongruence it breeds in my belly, I have been on a news diet. I listen to NPR and read the occasional commentary, but that's about it, and I still feel overwhelmed. Randy's piece is a helpful perspective. As a lover of history, it was truly wonderful to see our country in a longer story arc and helpful to see that even though we don't know the future that the shift ahead will take us somewhere new and that is part of the story of our country. My gratitude to Randy for being a wise presence..... much needed in these heartbreaking and bewildering times!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2937362710016241910.post-5659053371589618452018-06-14T05:36:24.829-07:002018-06-14T05:36:24.829-07:00An excellent essay condensing 250 years of America...An excellent essay condensing 250 years of American history into a concise explanation of the major themes. One of your best efforts, my friend. Thank you.

I think there's some merit to the idea about the effect of technology on the pace of change. Technology is advancing at a faster speed than ever before and may well shorten that 50 year cycle you write about. It will be interesting to see what happens and I, like you, hope I'm alive to see the beginnings of what comes next.Mr. Paulienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2937362710016241910.post-60494387527904220022018-06-13T15:00:36.820-07:002018-06-13T15:00:36.820-07:00Randy, so well written, concise and of real value ...Randy, so well written, concise and of real value to me. Technology (in various forms) has been advancing throughout our whole 243 years, yet the 50-year pattern still holds. Within the cycle "the toys" we use change - dramatically so during this current cycle -- but we are talking about people's thinking. I have not seen any change in that. It still takes an adult lifetime (50 years) .for change to surface, be assimilated, and made semi-permanent. Just my thought. And here I thought there was only NOW!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2937362710016241910.post-81016491712485173542018-06-13T13:51:14.457-07:002018-06-13T13:51:14.457-07:00Dam, but you’re a gifted and incisive thinker/writ...Dam, but you’re a gifted and incisive thinker/writer!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2937362710016241910.post-39227227296894923822018-06-13T08:43:03.274-07:002018-06-13T08:43:03.274-07:00Thank you, Randy.
